Mark Gurman: Apple should make a smart ring

"Oura Health Oy has been selling smart rings for years, proving that there is consumer demand for such a concept."

@philiped this should be to complement the watch, not to compete with it. What’s left from the watch that a ring would do? Not much.

@numericcitizen I wear both an Oura ring and a Pixel watch. I find the Pixel watch useful because it has a user interface (touch screen). The Oura ring has no interface on the device, which gives it much, much longer battery life and makes it simple to use.

@philipbrewer I also like the Oura ring software better than the Fitbit software on the watch. But I might like the Apple Watch software even better. Never used it; hard to guess.

@philipbrewer beyond that, what feature does the ring do that the watch can’t?

@numericcitizen I like the software in the Oura ring better—its “readiness” estimate accords better with how ready I turn out to be to handle a tough workout, for example. But it’s not because it’s a ring rather than a watch.
