Entry #25 to the Library is a doozy. Introducing my ‘Micro.blog Multimedia Uploader’ shortcut:

This shortcut helps you to upload any file(s) to your Micro.blog account and then copy the resulting URL(s) in the format of your choosing — including Markdown for images, HTML for videos and audio, or a plain URL for other files.

It includes niceties like allowing you to choose to upload images as either JPEGs or PNGs […], recursive encoding of videos […], and an optional function to use another shortcut to auto-generate image description[s].

Get it here from the HeyDingus Shortcuts Library.

@jarrod Told you there wasn't long to wait! 😁 I'm so excited to get this one out. I've been tweaking it for well over six months and have used it to upload hundreds of images, videos, and, yes, audio files to Micro.blog. Now that I figured out how to build in the auto-alt-text, I figured it was ready for primetime.

@jarrod My two favorite methods to launch this shortcut are from a Shortcuts widget on the home screen or with an action in Drafts. For quite a while I just stared at the widget until it was done so I knew it was ready to paste into Drafts. Then I finally thought to put an alert at the end so that I could move on and still be able to confirm that it ran and ran correctly.

@jarrod But on my Mac, I've got it configured as an in Dropzone so I can just drag files on top of it. Or I'll right-click and run it from the Services menu.

A grid-like user interface for the Dropzone app on macOS displays various colorful icons labeled for actions like "Add to Grid," "Drop Bar," "Upload To ImageKit," with categories like "FOLDERS / APPS" and "ACTIONS."

(And, yes, I used it to upload this very image. 😉 It's so cool to make tools that I then get to use to build other tools.)

@jarrod Ok, this is cool. Thanks for creating and sharing this! Upon examination, it made me realize that one can use Micro.blog + this shortcut to potentially replace DropShare + Backblaze (my free file sharing setup). Second, I discovered Dropzone, a mighty utility that will be added to my toolset! Thanks! cc @maique @AndyNicolaides

@jarrod this is so dang cool, thanks so much for sharing! Been using a bare-bones C# script for bulk uploads but this is a much better alternative. 🎉

@numericcitizen That was my thought too! This one would probably work well enough on its own, but I’m probably going to put together something more specific for my Dropshare replacement.

@V_ I love it. Way easier for AirDrop too, and they have a bunch of good plugins.

@AndyNicolaides Thanks! It’s kind of nice to have it all in one place with images under your domain name. I’ve been very happy using Shortcuts for all my MB image uploading for months.

@geofftaylor With all the different ways to run them on the Mac, Shortcuts gets a ton of usage from me over there. The possibilities are endless!

@numericcitizen Made some good progress on it tonight, but will probably need a few days of testing.

@numericcitizen I think I’ve got it to a good place, but want to stress test it a little. Would you be interested in helping me run a “beta” version through its paces?
