iPad improvements from the WWDC keynote are welcome. Unsure if anything has changed about background performance, retaining state of apps (especially websites) but the navigation-based updates look good.

@simonwoods I watched a video on YouTube (MaxTech I believe it was) who compared both the 8 and 16GB RAM models of the M1 Pro, and both of them were maintaining the open apps after loading a bunch and switching away.

@simonwoods I’m happy with what Apple showed us yesterday… but background tasks like importing a bunch of pictures while working in another app is still unknown at this time if it was improved.

@pimoore Oh, promising! If it happens and is mostly limited to the most powerful models, I’d be disappointed but not entirely surprised.

@numericcitizen I get the feeling it will be largely unknown until closer to the public release. Aside from anything else they might choose to test it in the beta period and then decide to hold it back for whatever reason.

@pimoore I would go with the 512GB model for the M1 iPad Pro, as the 8 GB M1 Macs are very capable.

@numericcitizen That’s the exact model I went with, in the 12.9 size. I debated getting the 1TB model for 16GB of RAM, but realized I wouldn’t likely have anything heavy enough in my workflows to require the extra memory or cost.

@simonwoods I honestly don’t see them doing that, and at the end of the video he even said save the cash and get the 8GB models. The max memory an app can access is 5GB anyway, so it’s likely the 16GB would only be for people with heavy visual illustrations or video editing that would have apps consuming a lot of memory.
