Alexandria Market House & City Hall has been on this site since 1749. This replica of the former building was completely rebuilt after a fire in 1871. The Farmer’s Market has taken place every Saturday in the square since 1752; making it America’s oldest.

@notunremarkable Faneuil Hall, Boston? I feel my New England relatives rolling in their graves.😸 But I could be wrong about the oldest marketplace

@annahavron I mistyped ... the Alexandria farmer's market has been there since 1752. I'm only re-posting what I read in an article. :P

@notunremarkable as a Northerner married to a Southerner, I understand there’s a rivalry at work between Boston and Alexandria — I love both cities ❤️

@annahavron Long ago a friend of mine, who was new to Boston, asked for directions to "Fan-wee" hall. You can imagine how that went.
