Watched Columbus last night. I really liked it, but I feel like this is a The Fountain situation, where people I recommend it to will either love it or hate it.

@noah The Fountain is amazing, and anyone who thinks otherwise is incorrect.

@eli yeah, it was one of my top 5 first time watch experiences. Hadn’t been matched for me until I watched Arrival.

@noah What was your take on The Fountain? I thought it was fantastic, but it took me a while to get there.

@jalvani I loved the mythology aspects of it. Also how it abstracted away the time and circumstantial context to get at aspects of the protagonist’s relationship with his wife. I was newly married at the time. Perfect storm of subjects that interest me and my life at the time.

@noah You articulate it better than I do, but that’s pretty much my feeling about it as well. Watched it twice, once before and once after getting married. Very different emotional responses. The second time was like Magnolia or Dancer in the Dark: I was a mess for a few days.

@jalvani Arrival did the same thing for me, largely because of the family relationships there, as my kids grow and become more independent.
