Why is american football called football? There’s hardly no kicking involved! To me football is what Americans call soccer.

@ndreas You assume language makes sense in the current context (so-called common sense). It often does not. American style football (AF) is derived from the sport called rugby, which does involve more kicking, since (unlike AF) throwing the ball forward is not allowed, only backward. The English style football isn't original either, BTW.

@renevanbelzen I know theres not always logic behind names and what things are called. But American style handball would make more sense. Or American rugby.
