I’ve just transitioned to a mac mini. My 2016 MacBook pro was bulging horribly. Battery knackered. The keyboard was duff from the start. I don’t need a pro machine nor a portable one now so a mini seemed a good choice. Basic model but with 1TB disk & 16 mb ram.

@johnjohnston what kind of monitor do you use with the mini?

@joelhamill I've a LG Electronics UHD 4K 27 inch, that I used with my macbook previously.

@johnjohnston how did you move your apps and settings? Did you use the Migration Assistant?

@johnjohnston How does the Ultra Fine perform? My only point of reference for that monitor is Marco Arment on ATP and his "it's fine" complaints.

@johnjohnston Enjoy it. I have used the M1 Mac mini for about two years now. I love it. There’s nothing I want to do that it can’t.

@numericcitizen yes, migration assistant. It didn't work during setup but ran fine later. Quite a lot of permissions to mop up. I suspect I've not got to the end of that.

@johnjohnston something I'll consider doing if I ever upgrade my Mac mini to a M2 Pro version...

@joelhamill I might not be the best person to ask. I never swooned over retina for example. I've an old 2012 27 inch iMac at work which I think I prefer but Ultra Fine is fine;-). The audio didn't work with the keyboard controls which is a bit annoying.
