I miss the old days when people would get really mad if an app phoned home.
@brentsimmons It's incredible how pervasive analytics frameworks are now; Little Snitch has become indispensable.
@brentsimmons some of us still do.
Not that long ago I started a whole online kerfuffle over Ubiquiti showing ads on the management interface and had people tell me, with a straight face, that advertisement is the future and it's how they manage to stay profitable.
The future sucks.
@superdealloc It does but it also breaks so much. I deployed it out on our home network and had to roll it back the next week.
@numist oh? Other than A couple allowlist exceptions for Prime Video, and getting used to not clicking on sponsored ads in Google, it worked perfectly for me.
@superdealloc I also had very few complaints but apparently it had quite an impact on my wife's corners of the internet 🤷🏻♂️
@jimray Is LittleSnitch also on iOS? That’s where most of the phoning home is happening.
@brentsimmons oh I can’t imagine it is, was just reminiscing in an admittedly odd way.
@brentsimmons Every time I view the App Privacy Report I wish for a “block” option for each domain. So creepy.
