I am trying out Squarespace as a blogging platform. A completely hand coded site is too much work and I am tired of WordPress security issues. What I really want is to focus on writing rather than technical stuff, despite always getting bogged down in the details of that.

@Mike\_McArthur I would be interested in hearing about your experience with Squarespace. My sister has had trouble with it, yet I don't know if I want to continue using WordPress.

@TheTechHomie hi, I suspect it may be a short lived trial largely due to the cost in $ and difficulty integrating Micro Blog which is high on my desired feature list. I do like the user experience though.

@Mike\_McArthur I see. Squarespace seems expensive-ish. I will have to figure this out when I build my other page.

@TheTechHomie for me it is extra pricey once the US$ cost is converted to NZ$, I could get specialised WordPress hosting for that price.

@Mike\_McArthur @The Tech Homie There are a few Micro.bloggers who use Blot.im as their blogging platform. I think its structure cultivates simplicity & focus on writing. Dropbox integration means your content never leaves your possession.

@MikeMcArthur @schuth _ I personally use Pelican and amazon S3 which works _perfectly for me. Am happy to talk about my setup if needed.

@Mike\_McArthur could you share, what kind of security issues you’ve had (concerning WordPress)? I am not a big fan of proprietary plattforms, but Squarespace, Tumblr, even Wix are all fine in their respective ways. Except when you try exporting your data...

@mkln Hi, really my concern is simply the prevalence of bots probing the admin login and having to use plugins to increase security of my site. I haven’t been hacked yet but the possibility is always there. I guess this applies to all sites.

@schuth Hi, thanks for the tip. I might try this and see how it goes. Do you happen to know who is using it within the indie web community?

@Mike\_McArthur I adopted Blot after @vasta shared his favorable impression of the platform. (I post to that blog infrequently by intent.) I believe @jack has experimented with it as well. I reckon there are other users here I don’t know about yet.

@schuth Blot is pretty great and would be a terrific platform for many. I'm trying to consolidate and basically punted by falling back on WordPress.

@Mike\_McArthur I see. I had the same issue on multiple sites. Brought it to 0 by adding htpasswd-login on server or by denying access to wp-login based on IP (mine whitelisted). Bit I see your concern.

@jmreekes Hi, I’m seriously considering this option. One thing holding me back was the better design of Squarespace themes but I’ve now found a WordPress one that I’m happy with. WordPress also has the advantage of worldwide servers which helps site speed.

@Mike\_McArthur One of the things that drew me to a WordPress hosted site was the ability to manage it from a mobile device. If I wanted to update a page on my SquareSpace site, it had to be done from a desktop or laptop.
