@chadkoh I feel you. I still have thousands of photos from my last big trip to go through. Do you have a preferred device and process you use to go through them? I use a basic iPad with BT keyboard (for cursor keys and shortcuts) and the Photos app, as I find it the fastest distraction-free way.

@mejh I am using Photos too, but I really wish I had Aperture back. I have been looking at some alternatives (on1 and Capture One) since I need something that can manage photos on my Synology. I have a few hundred gigs worth of photos, and they all can’t fit in my MBA.

@chadkoh Aperture was great. Yeah, that's why I sprung for a 2TB drive on my MBA, as my iCloud photo library is currently checks and does a double-take 669gb in size 🙈 and I like to keep it local for Backblaze and CCC backups.

@mejh I have about a dozen iPhoto libs on my 12TB Synology that I really need to collate. But I refuse to use Adobe products.

Btw, I forgot to ask about your camera setup. What are you shooting on when you are off in Antarctica etc?

@chadkoh That trip was my "excuse" to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year, for the 120mm lens. I have to have GPS-tagging on my photos, as I use the location for searching, and there (still) aren't many cameras with built-in GPS. Considering an OM TG-7 for my pocket.

@chadkoh BTW I love that Pixelmator is thriving, and even put out a Mac version last year. Still uses Photos for the back-end, but I think iCloud Photos is likely still your best solution in the end. I share your dislike of Adobe malware.
