@Annie I approve of this kind of book review.
@Annie I used to be an arts critic. Music, film, theatre, and occasionally, books. I donāt love long-form criticism of everything (just some things, and then, only by some writers) and for a long while Iāve wanted to start a review site where every review had to be 100ch or less.
@Annie I try to keep mine to a sentence. From scrolling Goodreads, I know I donāt want 500 words of high school plot synopsis. I want the pub version -ājust read this, itās great/meh/crap. Bit like [one other book]. Good thing/bad thing.ā Nothing more.
Maybe thereās a website in thisā¦
@matthewhurst Yep, thatās usually the review type Iām looking for as well. Especially from trusted sources. If I know I have similar reading taste/interests to someone, all I really need is a thumbs up or down.
@matthewhurst ā¦A website for micro-reviews would be very cool, especially with multiple contributors.
@Annie trusted sources matter. I do like to have a tiny indicator of tone just so I know whether outs high falutinā or junk. I read both, depending on mood.
@Annie Iāve always been a fan of the old āI wrote you a long letter because I didnāt have time to write a short oneā line thatās often attributed to Mark Twain (but was also SuPpOsEdLy expressed by Blaise Pascal, Ben Franklin, and Cicero, among others). Writing short criticism is harder.
