I’m intrigued by the Oura Ring and the idea of more passive activity and recovery tracking. Realistically though, would I actually be able to stop wearing an Apple Watch? I use the watch to reduce my temptation to use my iPhone, since that’s a strong source of distraction. If I had a ring instead, wouldn’... matt.routleynet.org

@mroutley I’ve gone through that rabbit hole a few weeks ago, but after some digging actually went full for my Apple Watch (now upgraded) and only use my Garmin for real exercising.

You can get similar advice and insights as Oura via Bevel or Athlytic I found, and have all the added benefits of the Apple Watch including better HR tracking.

@mroutley I’m a fan of the Apple Watch and my wife has an oura ring (which she loves). I’ve been wearing the dummy ring from the sizing kit for a few days and have reached the same conclusion as you - it’s just another thing to maintain, so probably won’t order one.

@alpower @gobino thanks for confirming and helping me keep my resolve. A silly, though pervasive, idea to think I can solve my tech concerns with just one more gadget

@mroutley I wore an Oura Ring for about a year and a half. It was great…Until it wasn’t any more. Mostly, its insights and recommendations didn’t make sense based on my activity level as I ramped up.

@mathyousee interesting. Good to know. I already have several health indicators that I seem to ignore. Not sure that more would help, especially if they aren’t accurate

@mroutley ultimately, the biggest benefit was that the Oura ring was able to accurately show the variation in sleep quality related to consuming alcohol later in the evening. The awareness helped me to adjust some habits. Even though I no longer use the ring, the investment was worth that insight.
