I finally pulled the trigger this weekend and deleted my Facebook and Instagram accounts. I didn’t really use them, but with the latest revelations about Facebook it did not feel right to keep them

@artkavanagh the network effects of chat apps is quite frustrating. I’m lucky that most people I’m regularly in contact with have iPhones, but I think Signal and Telegram are decent cross platform alternatives to WhatsApp if you can convince people to switch

@martinfeld Probably a silly question, but what's wrong with texting? Every phone is set up for it and it works fine. I suppose there can be friends whose phone numbers we don't know, but a short round of phone number exchanging would fix that, wouldn't it?

@JMaxB I completely agree with you but they want group messaging, which falls over with regular SMS and they’re also couples who want to keep track of what the other partner has said.

@martinfeld @JMaxB Media is also quite expensive via SMS (MMS, as it were).
