Algorithms surround us in tech that we use, systems in which we work and even in the way that we approach everyday tasks. In episode 14 of Lounge Ruminator, Are You an Automaton?, I ask: as we become more process-driven, are we losing something more human about ourselves? 🎙

@martinfeld enjoyed this episode. Our immersion in tech, and thereby algorithms and automation, I believe, is reaching a very critical point. Where those who recognize it, and understand how it can potentially be very dangerous and misused, turn away from it, while the rest are oblivious to how their lives are essentially being controlled by...others. It all sounds very conspiratorial and such, but also not out of the question...in my opinion :-)

@aa Thank you very much for your comment and I’m glad that you liked it! I share your opinion and really think that there are generally two such kinds of person: those who care and those who don't.

Also on the privacy front and how automatic, targeted advertising works, I have a friend who considers the whole thing to be a non-issue. They gladly gave their details to a company that runs an interactive game (name escapes me), whereby your phone can be called at any time—day or night—issuing you gameplay instructions that bleed into the physical world. While not strictly on the topic of automation, it disturbs me that this person has given up their privacy and is actively participating in a kind of intrusive process that disturbs sleep and other daily commitments. People really do surrender to these things.
