The new three lens iPhones are the final nail in the coffin for for interchangeable lens cameras. And I’m saying this as a huge fan of the dedicated camera form factor and of Fuji cameras in general.

@baldur This is a constant internal battle I have. I know my Olympus is better for just about everything, but I always have my phone with me. It constantly gets better. This article from Om has stuck with me. This week’s announcements only show that the trend is going to get harder to reverse.

@martinfeld No. But it's the first phone in years that I find tempting. These new iPhones interest me purely as highly capable cameras. Not much of a phone user, more of an iPad guy normally. I'm fine with my battered old 6 plus. 🙂

@zap Yeah, Om's posts on this topic are sticking with me as well.

What strikes me about these latest iPhones is that they seem like extremely capable cameras in their own right: plenty of range (normal, wide, ultra-wide) , decent in low light, loads of good apps, water-resistant for those cool weather shots.

Just in terms of camera features, they aren't a bad deal for the price.

@baldur Fujifilm cameras with 24-26 MP and fast glas still makes higher quality pictures. But computational photography is interesting. The AutoHDR feature of previous generation iPhone did some amazing tricks. This new iPhone 11 Pro looks very interesting.

@baldur Touching on the apps part of that, many people miss that the iPhone is a camera and a camera platform. Apps like Halide and Spectre give further enhancements on top of what Apple is already doing. This is what the real promise of Computational Photography is.

@baldur Yes I agree with you; the cameras are the most tempting part. Apple has clearly realised that too as it prioritises the marketing of that feature. All the shots of the new models are focused on the rear design this time, also highlighting the colour of the glass.
