Software is amazing. I have an iPhone 12 mini (not one of the new models), but I’ve been able to achieve some interesting close-up shots with Halide’s new Macro Mode. Check it out if you’re using an earlier iPhone.

@martinfeld Halide really is great, and the fact it gives this functionality to older phones is a huge deal.
@pimoore What do you enjoy most about the app? Any particular feature?
@martinfeld I've installed it too. It looks nice and has great features. But I'm curious to see why is there a subscription model and not a one shot payment. Anyway, at ~13€/year the price is more than ok. And as I want to upgrade to an iPhone 13 soon I'm asking if is worth getting a subscription. What do you think?
@podiboq Great question! I bought the first version of the app and therefore received a year’s worth of Mark II features—that was the earlier deal—but that has since expired so I’ve been trying out the subscription.
If you’re getting an iPhone 13 (of some kind) and don’t care for the manual features, then I’d say that it isn’t worth it. If you do like fiddling beyond the default app’s settings, then go for it!
@maique Thanks for the kind comment! I hadn’t used it for a while but my enthusiasm was reinvigorated by the macro feature.
@martinfeld I find it very useful, exposure lock is something I use all the time, and the Camera.app keeps resetting all the time. Also, being on an older X, it helps whenever I need RAW. Not that often, but it helps.
@martinfeld Same as you, I think the macro mode is brilliant. It’s a wonder Apple didn’t already come up with this quite honestly. I’m still dragging my feet with upgrading my phone, so the fact I can do macro shots with my now ancient 7+ is quite the novelty.
@martinfeld @maique That’s very true, though in my case no other excuse to upgrade is needed beyond the fact my phone is older than time itself. 😂
