Signal is more and more my go to messenger app - when i can get others to use it.
I think this change will allay the fears of some of the members of the MicroBlog community.
@JohnPhilpin where did you get this prompt from? I keep looking for my username settings in Signal for iOS and it still isn’t there.
@jthingelstad I was just asked to update ..I did and the screen appeared after the update .. so guessing that it was in beta .. per @pratik .. and they have just enable it in production
@JohnPhilpin @pratik @jthingelstad they had it in a public beta for a couple of weeks and now it's out for all. I just configured my username using their macOS app.
@otaviocc @JohnPhilpin @pratik must not be in all clients. I had been looking in Signal for iOS and it wasn't there. I updated on macOS and go the same prompt shared here and was able to set it up.
@jthingelstad @JohnPhilpin @pratik maybe they have some A/B experiment, or it's just a Feature Flag with gradual rollout. I hope more people will start using it now :-)
@jthingelstad @otaviocc @JohnPhilpin Worked for me on the Mac as well. I now have a username too. But it's not yet showing up on the iOS app.
@pratik @jthingelstad @JohnPhilpin the only place it shows in the app is when you tap the QR Code icon next to your name in the settings.
The idea behind Signal implementation is that this username is ephemeral. You should/could change it whenever you feel it’s the right moment. For instance, when you go to a concert, to a demonstration, etc…
It’s meant to be used as a “shortcut” for people to find you in a given moment in time.

@mandaris LOL! I feel the same way. There are more people on this conversation thread than the number I talked with on Signal but you know how it is, once something is available, messa gonna have it @otaviocc @jthingelstad @JohnPhilpin
