😝 I really needed to be reminded about RNI Films, like I need another app to edit photos!

Image of a patio viewed through a large glass door, featuring an outdoor seating area with a lounger and blue chair. The patio is shaded by a pergola with slatted white panels casting striped shadows. In the background, there are various plants.

Thanks, Alex, appreciate that a lot!

@maique I install that occasionally and a few photos later ask myself if I really need it. How many apps do I need to edit a photo?!

@maique Amazing mood in this one. This is a camera or a smartphone shot...?

@crossingthethreshold I need one: Lightroom. That’s why I’d like to have the presets for that one, but almost $200 took care of making me forget about it.

@z428 Thanks. iPhone shot. It’s mostly the same, when the light is good and you’re not zoooooooming in. Mood added later 🤣

@maique Neat. Still hesitate buying into Apple hardware for a couple of reasons but quality is rather convincing...

@z428 I’m at the stage where I actually need it for work (both shooting, and editing, with it), and it’s as close to perfection as it can get, in my opinion.

The fact that I can take care of all editing/sending, and shooting as well with quality fit for some assignments? I like this.

I don’t always agree with Apple, but the tool is good. Not sure I’d be able to find a suitable replacement elsewhere. One that would be as good, as comfortable, and mostly worry free.

@maique Yeah, I can imagine. Most of the people in my environment who do have a professional interest in photography share that sentiment. I'm on the "open" / Linux / Android side of things but from a mere media point of view this is making a lot of things more difficult for users beyond enthusiasts, I feel. 😬

@z428 Yeah. I’ve been trying Linux since I can remember, and can function with no worries on it, for almost everything. When it comes to editing, I still need Lightroom. Things have improved immensely, but the apps are not a good fit for me, I’m afraid.

And I (and my wife!) fondly remember a Pixel she had, the camera on that thing was pretty good. She liked it much better for photographing, and actually shot a ton more than she does now with her iPhone.

@maique Your particular endorsement as the iPhone for photography is one of the big reasons as to why I am not only not abandoning the device but specifically making room for it in a specific context. I am still uncomfortable with being utterly reliant on it — as with any tool tbh — but I am determined to make exhaustive use of it as soon as i can.

My current SE (2020) is sadly incapable of fulfilling this role, with apps just crashing on it the moment I try to do something even a little taxing so I need a new model. Once I get that I'll be trying all sorts of apps and whatnot.

@maique Oh. That's interesting. But yes, the Pixel cameras are pretty good as far as I know. For my purposes, my ol' Samsung M51 still does its job, but I'm far far far from having real requirements here.🙈 As for the apps... well, I see things such as digikam for management or some of the RAW processors did make progress the last couple of years. But unsure how far they get you if you need to provide a good result in a decent amount of time. At least talking usability and support.
