@help Tapping on a image in the timeline still returns a black hole, with the iOS app. It’s been like this for a while now. Thanks.

@odd Hmmm… This one was a PNG, but I get the same on jogs. @gluon has no issues with them. And it’s such a basic feature too…

@maique Can it be a new max file size do you think? Maybe a unintended change…

@maique @odd My guess is one of three things; general work on maintaining the timeline and/or images; work on timeline sync feature(s); or work on the new upcoming feature (assuming that isn't timeline sync).

As ever, the curse of slow-growing indie businesses strikes; when it's time for bigger features, the constant rate of maintenance will inevitably fall away for an indeterminate period of time.

I know Manton likes how slowly Micro.blog grows, however I cannot wait until there is enough growth that the team can become a bit bigger and then better handle issues such as these; of which there are always a few.

@SimonWoods I wish the same. I look back on the times when it was smaller, and faster, and want to be back there. These are not big issues, of course, at least most of them, but there are so many of them these days. Things that I (and others I'm sure) would like to see sorted. Notifications, one of the basics, are still hit and miss most days. Publishing time, and crossposting, can either work instantly (like today, knock on wood), take forever, or not happen at all. They worked in the past, brilliantly, hopefully we'll get back to it.

@devilgate @odd @help @maique Seeing this image problem myself, and I can’t recall the last time my notifications worked—I just turned them off entirely. Very frustrating.

@pimoore Same. Disabled notifications as they turned out to be unreliable. As for images, I mentioned @help a few days ago, without any response so far 😔 cc @maique

@pcora @maique I'd suggest to report it in help.micro.blog so it doesn't get lost in the timelines. I usually post the issues I'm facing there.

@maique confirming the same here, but it seems to not affect screenshots in my non-scientific testing. All other images, nada on tap. cc @help.

@pcora @pimoore If you want reliable notifications, you should try out @gluon. Even if it’s just for the notifications.

@maique @SimonWoods @devilgate @pimoore @pcora @otaviocc @jimmitchell Sorry about the images not working... I know that sometimes they take a while to load — but I'll look into it. I just went through the Discover section and tapped on every photo, and of course they all work. This is in the simulator though... I did add some extra data point when you tap on an image, to bring across "ALT" descriptive text to the app, but I hope that didn't cause anything break 😬

@maique @SimonWoods — For the record, I am only here for "3" days a month (officially)... and I have incredibly limited scope and reach, so I mainly concentrate on apps. I do see issues throughout and wish to fix them, but I just can't. The best I can do is get them noticed — that sometimes works...

Also, nope, not working on timeline sync. As I said, it's a secret project hehe.

@vincent @maique @SimonWoods @devilgate @pcora @jim I think that they are referring to the Micro.blog app not working, not showing the images when tapping on them. Gluon has no problem with images, as far as I can tell.

@jarrod @pcora @pimoore — Can confirm that notifications in Gluon just work. That's why I built my own — it's not perfect, but it allows me to react if things go wrong.

I have a “hotfix” for this and am awaiting Manton to wake up. I’d deploy a fix myself (it’s a server side issue that was probably my fault), but because we’re working on that “secret” feature I don’t want to mess up.

The issue was in instances where an image is hosted on MB and also has “alt” text, where sometimes the image resizer is having none of it. I could replicate the issue on my phone and crossed checked with the sim.

@vincent Thank you so much, Vincent. For someone who’s only working here for 3 days a month, you do seem to fix a lot of things. And, incredibly, you ALWAYS reply to questions about everyone’s issues with the service. Let us wait until it’s daytime back there, I’m sure we can all live without zoomable images for another day.

@vincent I wonder why I didn’t have them turned on! Another 2024 thing: give up on M.b’s notifications, and get them from Gluon instead.

Images should be opening now. This was my fault… Manton pushed out my tweaks I made this morning now. Let me know ✌️

@vincent images open in the iOS app now, but they also (for me at least) immediately open a browser window (Safari) in addition to opening in the app. Be on the lookout for a video of behavior in action to @help.

@jimmitchell I know what you're describing and I have seen it! It's when an image has an a tag around it with a link. It triggers the app's "Let's open this URL" function.

@vincent Yep. You’re right. Finally found an image in my timeline that didn’t have an anchor tag around it. Behaved as expected. The first four images I tried did have them, hence my “bug report”. Nothing to see here… move along. 🤣
