I like one guy’s work, he designs stuff. He moved to Japan, I thought I’d follow him on Mastodon. But he complains. A LOT! About every thing, about every one. I moved the follow to RSS, where I can “mark all as read”. Now I’m about to unfollow him everywhere, but still like the stuff he makes.

@maique Pretty sure I know who you're talking about. And I agree — how he gets any work done is beyond me, especially when that much time is spent sharing publicly that which would happily fit in a personal book. The private solution comes with a big bonus: no grief from strangers!

@SimonWoods I’m also guilty of over sharing, mind you. And probably shouldn’t even shared this one either 😅 But the constant nagging got to me.

@maique I just don't understand the rate of it; so much negativity constantly firing off, including whining about how people just don't understand them enough.

It's tiring just thinking about it and I still don't know how somebody has the time to do that and produce good work!

(Also — and this is unfair due to circumstances — but I sometimes pick up on bits and pieces of my wife's work in psychology, and recently learned of the idea that the more you express yourself in negative terms the more you effectively train your brain to continue to operate within negativity alone... and that thought both terrifies me and tracks with personal experience.

It's just not good for you, it seems, and there are things you can do to reduce the harmful effects.)

@SimonWoods Yes, and yes! Maybe that is why it seems to be increasing over time.
