@maique I’m intrigued by the new instance, but I also can’t help wondering if switching again is worth it. The whole point of Mastodon is every instance talks to each other, so apart from joining one based on interests or wanting a quiet local timeline I’m not sure it’s worth it. 🤷🏻♂️
@pimoore Agree with you. The local timeline at my current one is unusable, that’s a fact. I do love Adam and, since it’s not a lot of trouble to move, I’m considering it. I would get a new timeline, and not much else.
@skoobz @pimoore I, briefly, had them host an instance for me. The service was incredibly professional, quick, and nice altogether.
However I had no use for my own instance, apart from the curiosity that led me to do it in the first place, I just wanted to figure out how managing one would look like. It was an instance for one, and it made absolutely no sense for me, after I’d seen what it was all about.
I would definitely recommend them to anyone who’d like/need their own instance.
@skoobz Got it. From what I remember, self-hosting can easily get out of hand. It’s not the easiest app to run. Using the great Masto.host was the solution, but even their cheapest tier was not worth it for me. Do check them out if you decide to go that way 🙂
@maique There are a lot of good reasons to have your own very small instance. I for one think a lot of things in the fediverse would be better if there was more small instances
@hjertnes I understand, and agree. For me though, it was one situation where it made no sense to have my own instance. For technical reasons, if I was hosting it myself, or money wise, if I was not.
@maique I started my own because I didn't find an instance I liked and was able to join. Not sure how much I pay, but I know I spend more on olive oil a month 😂
