Will there be a moment when people decide there are too much ads on YouTube and stop watching vids because of that? Is this going to turn into a closed club for Premium subscribers only?

@alexsavin I’m getting to that point. Find ads annoying enough to give up.

@maique This is very concerning, especially since there are no real alternatives for content makers

@alexsavin I reached the tipping point some time ago. I went Premium, simply because I couldn’t stand the ads.

@helgeg @maique I believe that’s their business model.

@odd I’m sure it is, and I appreciate that. But I only “follow” a handful of creators on their service, and can easily see myself living without them if it becomes too annoying. I don’t spend enough time on YouTube, and I’m already paying for other video content platforms, to justify giving Google my money. Hopefully they’ll survive without my contribution😊

@AlanGMarz btw if you buy YouTube Premium subscription from your iPhone app it’ll cost you extra (+£4 in the U.K.)

@maique I think they will! I find it annoying too, but if it gets worse, I’ll simply say “this isn’t for me”…

@maique I am seriously considering dropping the subscription, I am unsure if get enough value from it to justify the momthly expense.

@alexsavin I removed the app from my iOS devices yesterday. Really becoming too aggressive with the ads lately. 🤷‍♀️ Considered premium, but the value proposition is not doing it for me

@alexsavin Significant numbers of people? I doubt it. Most folks will put up with a lot of crap as long as it’s free… just look at broadcast TV here in the States. The commercials are incessant and obnoxious, and yet millions of people still watch.

@AlanGMarz Will keep that in mind, thanks for the tip.

@petebrown in the U.K. when you go to the cinema there is about 40 mins of ads before the actual movie and this pretty much discouraged me from going to cinemas nowadays. That’s ads on top of £20 ticket price 😬

@dominikhoecht Thanks for the tip, but I’m only finding apps for jailbroken iPhones.

@alexsavin Yeah, it’s the same here. The last movie I saw in the theater was Rise Of Skywalker. After what was at least the seventh or eight ad, my 10yo leaned over and asked me “Is the movie ever going to start?”

@alexsavin From a US perspective, I became far less annoyed with YouTube’s ads when I attempted to watch a show on regular television. Upwards of half the programming time is dedicated to advertising and recapping what happened before each ad break. YouTube ads are no less intrusive but a bargain by comparison.
