We had an unexpected visitor this morning when maybe a juvenile Pīwakawaka | Fantail flew into the house but didn't manage to fly out again.

Luckily I caught it in the corner of the kitchen and took it back out into the great outdoors. 🐦

Tiny bird with very long tail in the palm of my hand.

@lmika Probably a bit scared at being 'stuck' inside and being held by a giant… 😀

@Miraz Oh, what a sweet little birb! It clearly went awry trying to handle those impressively long tail feathers.

@Miraz So cute 🥺 was it able to fly away again after taking it outside?

@lzbth It's not uncommon in summer when we have all the doors open for a bird or dragonfly to come in and then not figure out how to get out again. 😀 They always seem to get stuck in the kitchen where we have a window that goes round the corner. An easy rescue.

@val Yes, all good thanks. It flew off moments after I took the photo. 😁
