Curious if fellow profs here have favorite books or articles about academic writing for new PhDs, generalizable across fields. Frameworks, exercises, generating what I call “fortified questions” etc?

@ablerism I wish I had a good answer! Our dept has a course where we do introduce gradstudents to writing about research, but the modes are so different. We have students who are curating art shows and students who are writing up randomized trials. The workflows and styles can be so different that the most general skills are about things like reading for genre.

@natematias We have that multimodal spread going on too (Interdisciplinary Design and Media PhD) — but folks recommended Helen Sword’s books. Ordered!
