@yorrike yeah but kansas comes from algonquin, while arkansas comes from a french transliteration from algonquin.

@yorrike Might be just me, but I do have a tendency to pronounce Los Angeles as "los an-gel-eese".

@yorrike I had to sit with with the "can--sess" vs "ar--can--saw" for a moment. The state passed a law in the 1880s to pronounce it Ar-kan-saw, which I only learned about during the April 2024 eclipse. I kept pronouncing it Ar-kan-sass 😂

@kitt Ar-kan-sass is how Kansans pronounce the name of the Arkansas River. I imagine the folks in Arkansas call it the ar-kan-saw.
