A lot of track work going on this weekend. I enjoy seeing these trucks that can go both on roads and rails. You don’t want to be waiting for them to transition, though. It’s usually done at level crossings and they don’t rush it.

@lmika They're super cool! The railroad guys I've worked with call them hy-rails (hybrid rail vehicles). We used them back when I worked as a bridge engineer to inspect rail bridges in remote places where there are no roads. It gives you a completely different perspective. Steering is apparently pretty easy, you just let the rails take you.
@restlesslens Oh wow, that would've been an experience. The name "hy-rail" rings a bell. I might've heard it on one of those fly-on-the-wall documentaries about railway workers pretty much doing what you've described. Sounds like it would've been an interesting job. Thanks for the reply.
