@alanralph Yeah, your point about IE's integration into Windows is absolutely right.

I also share those un-fond memories of IE. My first couple of gigs involve building web-apps for state-run hospitals, followed by the federal government; both that mandated usage of IE 6 (and 8) on their Windows desktop. Fortunately I had the opportunity to use Linux and Firefox so I didn't have to use it myself. But the process of "adding support" for IE (read: corrupting the CSS and JavaScript to deal with IE's outdated, non-standard, and buggy rendering engine) was an affront to the codebase.
