Managed to setup Wireguard VPN on my home network this morning so I can remote in when on the road. Very simple setup at the moment: only a single host is accessible and no DNS or internet routing. But quite pleased with it, given my lack of experience in network administration.

@odd Yeah, I’ve got an Intel Nuc acting as a bit of a home server. It’s nothing fancy: it just has a few things like Plex and some home-grown things running on there.

@lmika They look great for a home server.

@odd Yeah, it’s been working well for me so far. Doesn’t use a lot of power and doesn’t run too hot so you can stick it in a wardrobe so long as there’s a bit of airflow.

@lmika I checked, and they are sold out many places here, but those who have them have so many options that it’s hard to decide what to get. Can you upgrade memory and SSD’s later on them, or is it soldered on?

@odd I’m not sure, but browsing the Intel Nuc website suggests to me that you can upgrade the memory and storage. The configuration I’ve got is a Core i5 with 4 GB of RAM and 1 TB of disk. It’s a few years old but performs reasonably well once I installed Ubuntu on it.
