Unsplash is being acquired by Getty Images … which leaves me with very mixed feelings. Thoughts?
@JohnPhilpin Fading away...exactly. Getty Images could have offered a free tier or developed its own free brand. I guess they thought the Unsplash brand was more valuable. Fortunately for me, I don’t use Unsplash that much so probably won’t be too affected by this move.
@JohnPhilpin Argh, it seems like I only learn of these sorts of services from their acquisition announcement.
@JohnPhilpin My immediate thought is UGH. I’m over the constant consolidation and plays towards monopoly in markets (bigger companies buying up smaller competitors, private equity roll-ups, etc), and this smacks of that very much to me. It’s concerning, to say the least.
