Unsplash is being acquired by Getty Images … which leaves me with very mixed feelings. Thoughts?

@JohnPhilpin I predict an annoying amount of up-sell being added to the Unsplash website.

@JohnPhilpin Fading away...exactly. Getty Images could have offered a free tier or developed its own free brand. I guess they thought the Unsplash brand was more valuable. Fortunately for me, I don’t use Unsplash that much so probably won’t be too affected by this move.

@JohnPhilpin Argh, it seems like I only learn of these sorts of services from their acquisition announcement.

@JohnPhilpin My immediate thought is UGH. I’m over the constant consolidation and plays towards monopoly in markets (bigger companies buying up smaller competitors, private equity roll-ups, etc), and this smacks of that very much to me. It’s concerning, to say the least.

Remember when Unsplash was acquired by Getty Images? There were reservations. Turns out we were right. Behold ... Unsplash+ just 18 months after the acquisition.

@JohnPhilpin Do people who share photos to Unsplash have a choice where their photos get slotted into?
