Can someone please invent a biodegradable disposable drinking straw that is better than the terrible paper monstrosities that are now dominating the market? Soggy, wet paper straws are gross.

@cleverdevil I work with a guy who has glass blowing equipment and makes decorative glass straws. Not terribly convenient but pretty cool.
@jack yeah, there are plenty of good reusable options out there, metal and glass, but that convenience factor is everything. Maybe I should start carrying a reusable straw...
@cleverdevil I saw bamboo straws on Amazon. Seems like they would get, funky pretty fast but not soggy. They were expensive.
I remember paper straws from when I was a kid (pre-plastic) they were really bad for shakes and malts.
@bradenslen mainly, I want something disposable and super inexpensive that restaurants and such can replace their plastic straws with. At a minimum, sit down restaurants should just start using metal straws and treat them like another piece of silverware to wash. Would save money!
@cleverdevil I'm thinking hard cardboard with a lacquer or shellac coating to make them resist water long enough.
Metal straws, I'd always be looking to see if they were clean inside.
@cleverdevil yeah I think unfortunately it is a more difficult problem then people think. I think that metal straws work great for individuals, but are not practical for restaurants, especially take out places. Plastic and paper have their own problems
