Moving from a 8-16 intermittent fasting schedule to a 5-2 schedule after three months of the former feels odd. I wonder how well I’ll deal with hunger on the two fasted days. Only consuming 500-ish calories may be a bigger challenge for me than not eating outside of an 8-hour window.

@mangochutney I lost weight after switching to the "grandparents" diet. That’s where I eat a proper breakfast (high calories, low fat), small lunch, and very light dinner.

@khurtwilliams @purisubzi That "grandparents" diet seems like exactly what my wife and I were recently talking about. We want to switch away from heavy meals in general but have found heavy food late in the day to be annoying either way.

@SimonWoods, my endocrinologist, agrees.

@khurtwilliams interesting. I‘ve been doing something similar during the 8-16 intermittent fasting phase: heavy, calorie-rich breakfast, lighter meals later in the day. Mostly because I often trained after breakfast and needed the energy.

@mangochutney if I'm able to I combine breakfast with a long hike or bike ride. The weather in New Jersey is challenging at the moment. > 30°C temps and > 85% humidity and poor air quality due to smoke from forest fires in Canada. I’ve quit riding and hiking for now.

@mangochutney I struggled badly with the 5:2, though I think I should have planned what I was going to eat a little better.

@khurtwilliams Oh I get it. I have lots if friends over there and the wildfires this year are bad. No use ruining your lungs for some cardio.

@BenSouthwood understandable. I‘ve found it fairly simple this week, having cone off 8-16. will be interesting to see how I cope a few more weeks into it but good meal planning definitely seems more critical than with 8-16.

@mangochutney I think that’s where it potentially falls down. Plus my wife is a devil for bringing treats home.

@BenSouthwood oh no! Thankfully in my relationship I‘m the one with the sweet tooth.

@mangochutney I’m more of a savoury snacker, but doughnuts are a weakness. I really should shop for myself/buy in food to ensure I can stick to a certain way of eating.
