@nitinkhanna, I am back on micro.blog. However, I don’t expect to be using it much. It’s a placeholder to prevent someone from taking my username.

@khurtwilliams welcome back! Sucks that your post didn't show up in my mentions...

@nitinkhanna webmentions aren't working from my blog. I'm not sure what the issue is.

@khurtwilliams Oh, I meant from microblog, the mention didn't show up... Anyways, as long as our comments reach one another :)

@nitinkhanna yes. That’s what I meant too. But webmentions from my Wordpress blog aren’t being sent general. I’m not sure what’s wrong.

@khurtwilliams ah! That sucks! Perhaps the php logs could shed a light? Maybe the process is trying and failing?

@nitinkhanna The logs provided no clarity. Pingbacks sometimes work and sometimes don’t. Webmention comments — that’s how you and I are responding to the original post — seem to work. But that original Webmention I sent to your micro.blog did not seem to work.

@khurtwilliams hmmm. Strange and sad. Only thing that comes to mind is that the process could be hanging or running out of memory. It doesn’t always manifest in the logs but simply restarting services may show this if the server works fine for an hour or so after restarting.

@khurtwilliams I have a heavy WordPress site that sometimes hangs up. I’ve got a cron script that polls the server every few minutes and if it encounters a 504, it restarts php-fpm. Has saved me from hours of tweaking the services to find the elusive right balance.

@nitinkhanna I made some database tweaks which boosted page performance. Sometimes "tweaking" is a neccessary.

@nitinkhanna FYI. I have searched Google for "troubleshoot WordPress webmentions" but found nothing useful.

@nitinkhanna webmention replies to this micro.blog thread are working even when done manually. ~~~~ 96.126.125.129 - - [14/Dec/2018:15:14:08 -0500] "GET /2018-12-07-16-12-42/?replytocom=19705 HTTP/1.1" 200 8959 "-" "Micro.blog/1.0 (Webmention)" ~~~~

@nitinkhanna I left a webmention response to your Some thoughts on WordPress 5 and Gutenberg post. Let's see if it shows up there.

@khurtwilliams you know, this is partly my stupidity. Webmentions show up in my admin and I approve them but I don’t think they show up as comments on the front end. My payment for the sin of using Disqus for a long time (no more). Just approved them both. Let’s see if they show.

@khurtwilliams tweaking is fun too... just that I’m more comfortable tweaking services and cron than processes and threads.

@nitinkhanna the Webmention worked! I took your advice and added a cron task to update wp every 10 minutes. I think that has fixed Webmention response issues. Thanks for helping out.

@khurtwilliams cron for the win! 😊 What does the update do though?
