Last night I demoted my Fosstodon admin account, then flipped the switch and migrated to Micro.blog. Here's some thoughts on why I did that.

@kevq this is awesome. Great post. It’s a very similar setup to what I’ve got going and I agree 100% that micro.blog has made a positive difference in my relationship with Fedi/social as well. Welcome to MB!
@kev Nice. I wish you wouldn't have done that, because I *just* checked in with Micro.blog after months being away. I'm still enamored with Ghost's implementation, but it's far from complete and Micro.blog has been doing it for a long time, now. Plus, I like how my Micro.blog looks more than my Ghost blog. Sigh. :)
@kevq Hey! Thank you for all the work you did on fosstodon. I was a user there for a while but I was noticing a lot of what you mentioned in your post (to wit: the fediverse is not really different from other social media). Happy to be able to follow you here!
@tripplehelix @kev @nhr it's a Go To Social issue so think, shows up well elsewhere
@tripplehelix @nhr it's probably some clash between micro.blog and GTS. They are both not mastodon, so the activitypub stuff is probably not one to one
@joel @tripplehelix @kev @nhr Yeah, a lot of other software doesn't work too well with GtS on replies. PixelFed for example.
@tripplehelix @nhr @amin yeah, not saying it is, I just mean that all three projects implement the protocol in slightly different ways
I noticed for example, that opening Kev's replies from Fosstodon in the Tusky app opens the browser instead of accessing the reply inside the app
@jasonekratz hahaha yeah. 500.social was my first attempt at an exit strategy from Fosstodon. I’m glad it didn’t work out actually, as I would have just been trading one headache for another.
@kevq this is a neat write-up, thank you. The UX & visuals on your site are also a joy ~ nice job!
@jbaty that’s interesting. One of the challenges with Ghost/Substack sites is that moving subscribers and payments is a whole ordeal. I’m beginning to wonder if a ‘simple site’ setup (ie, microblog) hooked up to a Patreon could be the way to go.
@kevq
> the fedi is supposed to be a friendly, welcoming online space, right? But the fact is, it isn’t. It’s just like everywhere else online
True. I like how Micro.blog allows a person to be minimally involved in the fediverse. Arm’s length.
