I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I like the Epson ET-8500 EcoTank photo printer. It makes great prints and is inexpensive to run. I just make prints and don't think about it. baty.net/posts/2023/10/the-eps

@jbaty first positive feedback I read on a printer in years.

What paper do you use? And when you print, how do you hang photos (frame no frame? Tape, cohesive gum of sorts, magnets?)

The later is where I have more problems usually.

And what do you do with old prints?

@jtr I mostly just use the Epson premium photo paper and sometimes Canson Infinity fiber rag paper, although I haven't gotten the latter dialed in yet with the printer. I rarely frame prints. Mostly they just float around loose on tables and desks and I hang a varied collection using magnetic ropes like the attached. If I worry too much about it I lock up and don't do anything, so quick and easy is the way to go.

@jbaty This is inspiring. I need more info. I am in a photo “funk” right now, and I’m stuck.

What’s this magnetic cable thing (I see pins? Do you use a specific margin width?

Most of your photos (if not all?) are analog, right? Do you ever use Lightroom and the like?

@jtr The cables are these: amazon.com/gp/product/B014PD30. I just hang the cable from a pushpin stuck in the wall :). It comes with a handful of strong magnets

Most of the prints I hang are darkroom prints, yes, but with the new printer this is changing. I like a prominent margin. Give photos room to breath in the print. I change sizes often, though, just to see how they look. I dislike borderless prints.

I use Capture One for editing, sometimes Lightroom Classic.

@jtr The best way I've found to get out of a "photo funk" is to stay far away from Instagram and Co. and just go take some pictures. It's often better for me to focus on quantity over quality :).

@jbaty Thank you! I would like to know more about how you do things, but I’m not sure I got the question to have you elaborate right now. If you have a few posts pointing at your process, do you mind pointing me at them? I’m not sure what I’m looking for. I just know the more I learn, the more inspired I get, and it’s a good feeling. My brain’s been hungry for it, seems like.

@jtr I've been overthinking my entire process (as usual) lately, and have an early draft post trying to get it straight in my head. If I finish that, I'll let you know :)

@jemostrom The 8550 is cheap only $50 more than the 8500 on Amazon right now, so good timing :)

@Ddanielson I haven't run out of my first set yet, so yep, so far so good :). The first set was easy to use and I like the /idea/ of them. Plus, cheaper and no weird secret codes on cartridges that could be rejected as far as I can tell.
