Question for the Micro.Blog community… I am guessing it is better to have an actual Micro.Blog site verses hosting or having a WordPress one that just feeds the Micro.Blog community? Trying to figure out the pros and cons in while learning how this community works.

@ericmwalk I was a WordPress user for years, then Jekyll, Hugo, and a few in between. Personally I would recommend micro.blog not because it works better for posting, which it does, but it's just a fabulous blogging platform. I've merged all of my historical blogs into one micro.blog instance and it works great. Simple, easy... just lets me write.

@jthingelstad Thanks for the thoughts on this topic. Every day I keep using it I do like it more and more it just seems simple from the posting and conversation part of things. Seeing how your whole site it on it makes it seem like I should have no problem at all then.

@ericmwalk I’m not sure there’s a clear pro or con. There are plenty of very active, engaged folks here on Micro.blog who nevertheless use external blogs (WordPress, Blot, Hugo, &c, u.s.w.).

For the first year I was on M.b I ran a WordPress blog that fed into the timeline, because at the time WP gave me greater control over what posts appeared in the timeline and which were posted only to my blog. (This has since changed with the advent of categories and filters based on post-length.)

I began paying monthly for a membership partly to try the service, but mostly to just show my support. But the experience was SO MUCH EASIER than wrestling with WordPress, that I went all in with a hosted blog maybe a month later, and never looked back. That was two years ago.

@bix thanks for the feedback and good to know about the delay.

@bix @ericmwalk This is a very good point. I’d forgotten about that, but yes, there was a lag — sometimes of several hours, sometimes not — with my old WP blog, too.

@rnv thanks for the thoughts on this topic. I actually was just thinking today I am going to sign up to give it a more deeper try and I am guessing I will fall into that camp that just eventually reverts all to M.b at some point.
