Guess which one even I can’t believe I’m using again.

@pratik That too, unfortunately. I'd replace it if I could :)

@jack @pratik You need Midnight Commander in that case, MacPorts and Homebrew both have it.

I’m assuming the shocker is MarsEdit?

@pimoore @jack Jokes aside, I’m guessing it’s Evernote

@pimoore It's been a long time since I've seen Midnight Commander! I like Ranger, too. None can actually replace finder, though. The surprise in the image is Evernote. It's been years!

@pratik Yep. I used Evernote daily from around 2008 until at least 2012 or so. Thought I'd check in.

@jack Been ages since I last used Evernote too. I believe the last time I even had it installed, the blogging platform Postach.io had come out for it.

I was a hardcore ranger user for a long while before switching to MC. Definitely not a complete Finder replacement if you need some of its functionality, but damn if it’s not fast and fun to use.

@jack What got you using Evernote again?

I’ve been using Evernote for over a decade but I’m going to switch to Notes sometime this year.

@josephaleo Good question. I was getting tired of all the busywork introduced by Obsidian/Tana/Roam, etc. Evernote sort of is what it is, you know? And it's so easy getting anything in there. It's out of fashion, but still very capable and (comparatively) simple. Apple Notes is pretty good, too, but I'd really miss Evernote's web clipper, which still has no equal that I've seen. It's an experiment :)

@jack quick notes instead of clipper?

@jack Interesting. While I use Obsidian to “make notes,” I’m also using it to take standard notes. It’s also great for running RPGs. Very flexible. I still love Evernote, I just use it far less than I used to.

@jack I forgot about Web Clipper. It’s firewalled where I work, but I used it a lot back in the day.

@JohnPhilpin They're not really the same. Evernote's web clipper has some kind of magic sauce I've never seen elsewhere.

@jack I think I'm going to move from Obsidian back to Evernote too. The plugins and customization for Obsidian are too much for my needs.

@mindofaaronw I'm finding there's room for both. For example, I still write the majority of my notes in org-mode files, but use Evernote (mostly) for the things other people write. I could easily use Evernote for both, but I'm too in love with Emacs :)
