@johnchandler Thanks for asking, John. I agreed with much of his discussion about science and faith. I agreed with most of his recommendations for mental health. I disagreed with the consistent way that he would retroject human emotions, patterns of thought, experiences, etc. back on to God.
@johnchandler When he would do this with Jesus, I didn’t always agree with his exegetical moves, but it’s fair to retroject our human experience back to Jesus as fully human.
@johnchandler When he did this more broadly with God in himself, I struggled. His aim was often to suggest that God truly understands us—and has fully experienced our emotions, struggles, experiences, in himself (beyond from his humanity). This tended toward speculation that went beyond both what the text says and historical theological orthodoxy.
