So, in summary, Sonoma is a collection of the most beautiful wallpaper images Apple has ever offered, with the option to put new kinds of widgety clutter on top of it.

@johnchandler Haven’t tried it yet but I like the idea of widgets, but maybe not on the main screen. Remember those “widgets” they used to have, calculator and whatnot. You had to swipe to the left. I hope you can have multiple screens now(?)

@johnchandler The new wallpapers are excellent, as are the transitions. I’ve added way too many widgets, and time will tell which of them don’t get deleted in the next few days.

@odd Yes! Was that called the Dashboard. I think it rolled out in Tiger which was loaded on the first Mac I ever owned.

@chrisfoley Yeah, I like widgets on my iPhone, and I need to set some up on my iPad. But not sure why I’m resistant to them on my Mac.

@johnchandler Primarily they need to be functional in contexts that are used on a regular basis. For example, I always make use of the weather widget on my phone when going out, as well as the clock when setting my automatic watches. We’ll see how it works out on the Mac over time.

I still remember how useful and elegant widgets were on Windows Vista 13 years ago, especially the clear ones. I’ll see if I can dig up a screenshot from back then.
