The first three episodes of Game of Thrones’ new season reminded me why I love the show when it’s firing on all cylinders, a virtual Greatest Hits collection; the more I think on it, though, the more last night’s episode felt like a Greatest Misses collection.

@jhull I liked the episode's direction and some scenes were terrific, but the big problem I had with last season was the feeling that characters were making inconsistent choices—and time and space were occasionally being compressed in questionable fashion—because the writers needed to hit specific beats. Last night's episode had some of that to me, along with a couple uncomfortable lines/scenes for some of the major female characters.
