Having a diagram doesn't make it clearer, making it clearer makes it clearer.

Words to live by from a how-to-do-slides post that didn't contain a lot new for me. Except for the bit about showing websites.

@jeremycherfas I use slides a lot in my work (more than I'd like to). The amount of experienced trainers who send me 30 slide presentations with every slide chocked full of text... Ugh... :/

@jeremycherfas Or my personal favourite; the presentation I received for "Project X" (actual title) where every slide had a different transition, and every asset zoomed or span or bounced onto the screen. It took me an hour just to delete the animations!

@jeremycherfas I find creating a diagram often helps me more clearly understand and put words to the thing I’m trying to make clear. Still doesn’t mean it necessarily belongs in the final presentation.

@InfinitePlayer I am a huge fan of the Duarte SlideDoc concept. Do you know that?

@liz Absolutely. And I am the same. But the diagram can be a bit like a lost wax mould for sculpture. You need it to make the final product ( which could be another diagram or words) but it vanishes in the process.

It's always frustrating when that happens - my main challenge with corporate culture. I've been reading through the website all morning. Great stuff, I really appreciate you sharing!

@InfinitePlayer You want really meta? I have actually given a presentation on the value of a slide doc, with an example slide doc of the presentation's content -- to no effect. I've kind of given up.

@jeremycherfas Exactly! Like mixing acid and alkali at 1:1 ratio - their learning was neutralised! (I hope my high school chemistry hasn't failed me there!)
