Back home from my trip to Norway, the last time I’ve spent so much time on trains was when I spent a summer inter-railing as a teenager. The last trip, Bergen -> Umeå took 30h.

@jemostrom Bergen! It's a lovely day here in Bergen today. Plan to take my family hiking later.
@jemostrom Oh, I feel you! When I was in the navy, I had every third week off, and I went from Bergen to Oslo, to Trondheim, and then to Stjørdal, about 17h. Then ten days later back again. I didn’t take trains for years after that. But, 30h is of course worse. 💺
@odd Yep, while it's nice to have a look at Norway, 30h is a bit much. I did Bergen-Oslo-Trondheim-Storlien-Sundsvall-Umeå on Wednesday-Thursday.
@furstenberg Yep, while it rained a bit now and then while I was there (Monday evening-Wednesday morning) it was generally nice weather. I didn't go for any hikes, just walked around in the city, the furthest I went was taking the Fløibanen to the top.
@odd A question: both Oslo and Bergen was OK as cities goes (Bergen was prettier) but what about Trondheim, I never left the railway station (I think it was a 30-40 min stop, it was early, cold, rainy and I was tired) and Trondheim didn't look that inviting. Was it just a bad impression from the railway station, the areas around train stations are usually more utilitarian than aesthetically pleasing 😜, so perhaps other areas are nicer ??
@furstenberg Trevligt
@jemostrom The train station in Trondheim is located at a place where it’s hard to see Trondheim’s charm. And I’ll probably get death threats from relatives when I say this, but I find both Oslo and Bergen more charming overall too. Trondheim has sights to see, and places to be, don’t get me wrong.
@jemostrom Yes, one has to walk for about 5-10 minutes to get to the main city square is, where most of the people are. Also about that range to Nidarosdomen cathedral.
