After seeing three people make the same moving violation while out driving today I’m left to wonder if people are worse drivers now because of the pandemic or had I not been paying attention until lately?

Either way, it feels less safe than ever to drive.

@dandycat It's difficult to say why, but it definitely seems that peoples' driving has gotten worse. Where I live, in Toronto Canada, there seems to be a pedestrian fatality almost once a day. It can't all be the pedestrian's fault.

@jeffreyince @dandycat No doubt driving ability has declined, several fatalities in Hamilton too. Hell, just yesterday at a four way stop I had the right of way to turn, yet the person opposite me who didn’t even fully stop proceeded to cut me off. Then they stopped and waved me through.

Drivesplaining.

@pimoore @dandycat Yikes! For some reason, which I cannot fathom, it's as if everyone is in a really big hurry. I wonder if it has something to do with an increase in anxiety?

@jeffreyince @dandycat I’m sure that’s part of it.

@jeffreyince I don't deny increasing driver incompetence, but don't exonerate the traffic engineers and the governments that have privileged motor vehicles over pedestrians and bicyclists.

@ReaderJohn this is a very good point. Another thing that I'd like to see is communities built to a human scale. That is let's make places a lot more walkable.
