The magpies have come to appreciate our small walnut treats so much that early in the mornings, theyโ€™re gathering on our back fence to sing us a lovely โ€œrise and shineโ€ song ๐Ÿ˜† What great birds!

@lmika I always appreciated them from afar for their cleverness and beautiful birdsongs, but now we're making friends with our local ones, they seem even cooler! They're pretty contemptuous of our cat though ๐Ÿ˜†

@jayeless Love your magpies soooo much. Best sound ever. Like clockwork. They don't sound the same over here. Not as melodic. More clicks and alien sounds : ) along with their absolute cawing/croaking racket. Got a couple of sweet maggie vids for you if you fancy....Lady and her magpie friends + Swoop.

@hollyhoneychurch Ooh, somehow I missed this comment until just now, but those videos are fantastic โค๏ธ My grandma fed generations of magpies at her house, and she was full of stories about their cheeky behaviour and spunkiness :) And she was also adamant about their song being much more beautiful than European magpies' songs, haha

@jayeless Your gran was right!! Best thing about waking up in a new place is hearing the new birdlife. Your magpies were a lovely surprise when I visited Queensland.

@hollyhoneychurch @jayeless Amen to that. I spent three weeks listening to a Bell Bird in Wanaka, ANZ. Its songs were beautiful, but sadly, so different from anything I was used to that they melted from my memory within minutes.

@Miraz @cliffordbeshers Oh, that is a lovely bird song too ๐Ÿ˜Š And I'm with you @hollyhoneychurch, listening to that "natural soundtrack" of the birdsongs in a new place is wonderful.

@Miraz I think I listened to this when I was there. The tune is slightly different, though since I can't remember the one I heard properly, it's all fuzzy. I remember now that I never saw the bird, I only heard it, so my identification remains tentative. Still, it was a mesmerizing, lilting tune with a clear, ringing timbre, just like that one.

@jayeless It's lovely hey? Birds are one thing, insects are a different matter entirely - the cicadas drove me (and my tinnitus) mad for the first few days ha!

@hollyhoneychurch I'm pretty sure we sometimes have one of those birds around here. ๐Ÿ˜€

@hollyhoneychurch Hahah, generally I don't mind the cicadas (or even like them โ€“ to me they sound like summer evenings ๐Ÿฅฐ) but there's no denying that when you're right next to them they're some noisy buggers, haha
