@jayeless What is the idea behind indiebookclub.biz ? Isnt it a way to share book reviews with microformat? It looks like it’s possible to build something similar to Goodreads using IndieWeb protocols...

@hhyu My impression was that it's used to share reading status (like "currently reading", "finished"), rather than reviews. I just logged into it to check, and indeed there's no field on its "new post" screen for just typing what you think. While I was writing this post I did find this proposal for a decentralised Goodreads, though, which looks interesting.

@jayeless Ah I see! I was excited about indiebookclub because I thought it’s intended to be a building block of a decentralised goodreads. It probably is, but the aggregation function doesn’t seem to exist yet. I hope somebody picks up this idea. I think it could be the killer app of IndieWeb.

@hhyu I'd definitely like to see a decentralised Goodreads alternative, myself 🙂

@jayeless Having just deleted my Goodreads account, I can relate to your frustrations. I think you’re right that an IndieWeb solution would be ideal. So far I’m using the books feature on Micro.blog, though it is pretty rudimentary at the moment. I hope you find a good solution!

@mroutley Thank you! I could use Micro.blog's books feature a little more, although you're right that it's a little rudimentary. Perhaps Library JSON and some of the reponses to that proposal, like this use of microformats, point to a way forward. But if so, it's still very early stages for now!
