There are lots of community platforms out there. FB groups… Slack… Discourse… Circle… the list goes on.

I’d love to hear which communities you are a part of, or which platforms you are using. (aside from micro blog 🙃)

Where do you ‘hang out’ the most?

@jasraj I’ve got a few Mac Discourse forums I frequent. I don’t like Slack. I don’t have a Facebook account. I use Twitter for basketball conversations.

@canion thanks :) Yeah, Slack/FB groups feel a bit too 'busy' for me. Which is your basketball team?

@jasraj I’m not into the NBA. I love Australia’s NBL. In that league, the Perth Wildcats are my team.

@canion oh, cool. I knew there was a netball league there, I hadn’t realised there was a basketball one, too. Interesting to know :)

@jasraj I don’t support community platforms that don’t support conversation threads such as Telegram. Slack has them, but they still feel like an afterthought. I feel a lot better about Discourse, but my favorite platform is Mighty Networks.

@jeroensangers ah, interesting. Yes, Mighty Networks is great (ands lots of features). I think my favourite ones are those that feel like a blend of real-time and forum-based, otherwise they feel too busy/non-conducive to meaningful interactions.

@jasraj I think you are right on: you need some kind of structure to be able to follow conversations but also not so much that you have to search for new content.

@adoran2 I've also kept both for now. Though I've been embracing old-school texts recently (partly in preparation for getting a 'minimal phone')

@jasraj I'm part of a few Slacks. Visit them maybe once a day briefly to see what is going on.

@cdevroe thanks. Once a day sounds sensible; that alert sound Slack uses would drive me mad 😆

@jasraj I keep Slack closed 99.7% of my day.

@mikehaynes I love the honesty Mike 🙃 Surprisingly, I’ve never actually spent much time on Discord. I think it feels a bit too anonymous for me personally, kinda like reddit :/ There are some cool groups on there though.
