@maique unfortunately it is issues like this that will eventually drive long time users away. Issues that have been going on for years and one of the things expected from any app or service.

@maique it’s so frustrating when a basic function like this regularly doesn’t work. So many little things randomly fail or stop working and then just as randomly start again. My Bluesky cross posting hasn’t worked for two days now.
@adders They work sometimes, usually after a re-install of the app, but quickly fall over again.
@gregmorris @maique Just yesterday @Manton ended a post on his blog with this "I’m also more than guilty of working on fun diversions away from my product’s core features." On the one hand, new features are nice but it does seem as though Micro.blog has an ongoing reliability problem. I see quite a few threads like this one, several a month along side of the time line failing to update, sometimes for hours at a time.
I'm still rooting for micro.blog and check in almost daily but I have shifted more of my time and attention elswhere.
@Denny Completely agree. I was expecting things to change due to the responses to the user survey pointing to these kinds of issues with reliability. But alas, a new front page and book covers in the timeline are considered more important. I get it, new things are cool and ensuring reliability is boring work.
I don' pretend to know how to run a social platform, Manton does, but I think it's getting untenable for a lot of users. I really appreciate micro.blog, I really do, and i think thats why I hate to see these kinds of 'basic' issues.
@maique oh it’s happening to me too. I posted a thing in the Help page about it. I thought it might be something I did
@Denny @gregmorris @maique I have many similar thoughts…
The core product of Micro.blog has so many things going for it – but it also desperately needs polish. This just makes it so wild that they spend precious dev time on things like Notes, which are extremely well served by the market, instead of focusing on what makes the service unique.
@Denny @gregmorris @maique I added that line at the end just to soften my criticism of Mastodon. People have been asking for something like the book cover previews for years, over and over. It's okay if not everyone uses that feature but I know a lot of people wanted it.
@maique Thanks, looking into this. Were they notifications from Micro.blog users or from Mastodon or Bluesky?
@gregmorris @maique @Denny Count me in as someone frustrated by the basics falling down. I so want Micro.blog to succeed, but even the advocate that I am, the reliability and polish issues scare me off from migrating my full blog over.
@maique Sorry to hear it. I feel like feeds are more reliable right now but clearly I must be missing some things. I see other Letterboxd items showing up in people's feeds so I'm digging into why yours isn't working.
@maique I've turned off notifications now and rely only on Mastodon where I crosspost. I check Micro.blog's mentions few times a day depending on how busy I am. So my replies to others, contrary to before, are much delayed.
@maique We're digging into the notifications and see the problem, it was indeed broken. Should have a fix ready soon.
@maique are you missing push notifications or are you not seeing replies in your Mentions tab?
@odd Unfortunately I’m echoing these sentiments. I want desperately for micro.blog to be my forever home for POSSEing all the things, especially now that we have mainstream normies flocking to Bluesky, even looking again at Mastodon/Fediverse anf Threads about to finally seal the deal with 2 way federation. It’s all about the open API and hackability without the overhead I’ll be facing with a DIY hosting solution… I need notifications and I’m sure I could create a hack with RSS that would do it, but I shouldn’t have to if there’s an app already, right?
@starrwulfe RSS and Mastodon mostly. Bluesky a little bit, not sure I'll stick with that.
I quit Facebook in 2015, stopped posting to Instagram a couple years ago and finally closed it and Threads accounts last week.
@Denny Fair enough.
I'm hoping the bridge is good enough by the time things get cooking over there so I can just cherry pick accounts and follow from here (or wherever I carry this account's URL to next; same with Bluesky really... Although I do like Bluesky a lot)
@starrwulfe Yes, exactly! Now, personally I have disabled notifications, (because sometimes there’s just too much), but I often check my replies. I wish it had been the only issue. I think there’s at least got to be a trustee or two, who can deploy changes (emergency bug fixes, restarting servers, etc. around the world), because like the other day, when the timeline wasn’t updated for 4-5 hours, it seems like nobody cares. I know they do, but it’s a reliability issue. I think I need to stop harping on about this, but I feel like something has got to be done.
