iOS 18.2 has a new ‘Copy Link with Highlight’ action in the text action menu! Via Federico Viticci:

I’m very happy to see this:

It’s a little hard to find, but Safari in iOS 18.2 beta now supports links with Text Fragments!

This feature has been in Chrome for a while, and it lets you link directly to a specific part of a webpage with a highlight.

I was going to try making a shortcut to do this, but built-in is much better! An example: heydingus.net/blog/2021…

@jarrod This works if both are using Safari, right? It didn't go to the right place in Arc. I mean, it scrolled down to that part but didn't highlight the word as it did in Safari.

@pratik it probably works in Chrome, too. It’s a standard that hasn’t gotten full browser adoption.

@jsonbecker I mean, if I link to a particular highlight using my browser, will someone else using any other browser be able to go to that highlight?

@pratik it’s a standard— as long as the browser supports it, I don’t see why not. I have no idea what Arc supports, but most things I read about the feature noted Chrome had implemented it already but didn’t mention other browsers.

@pratik My understanding is that it’s a web standard, not just a Safari thing. But how it’s implemented/displayed is probably up to Arc.

@jarrod Yup. That's what I thought. Frustrating when browsers don't implement web standards at a bare minimum.
