@jarrod Btw, I’m not a big fan of the combined “WW” mark in this year’s conference branding.
WWDC@jarrod Oh wow. This is intense. Do you think people will actually parachute into the ring real time?
@jarrod Hmm, have we seen those space gray chairs and cushions before? @michaelsteeber
@jarrod Oh thank god, I was really hoping for some hand gestures for getting around the system.
@jarrod I don't think anyone had ultra-wide macOS desktops on their predictions but seems like a good compromise for multiple displays.
@jarrod The continuous swipe to get to a particular section of Control Center is nice. Yay third-party controls. How about Shortcuts?
@jarrod Locking specific apps has been a loooong time coming. I wrote about it three years ago.
@jarrod And scheduled messages!!! Formatting, text effects, more. Huge year for Messages. I wonder if we can format with Markdown. Probs not.
@jarrod Arbitrary (non-emergency) satellite messages! Wasn't expecting that from WWDC. I think it's going to be a new phone year for me. Satellite features are going to be fantastic for my guiding work.
@jarrod Trial maps should be awesome too, but we need them everywhere, not just popular parks.
@jarrod Gonna have to dig into those Apple Pay improvements. They're going through things so fast.
@jarrod What I want most out of Photos is the ability to select a bunch of photos and have it create an easily sharable recap video.
@jarrod I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Safari-like revolt over the Photos app redesign. I think a lot of people have workflows built around the current design.
@jarrod Apple Watch is jumping on the training load game, giving suggestions on rest and recovery.
@jarrod Hmm, a new Vitals app for watchOS. That could be pretty cool. But I never go into the heart rate or those other individual vitals apps.
@jarrod Love to see Check In for workouts on Apple Watch. But I'd really like to see a map view in the Workouts app.
@jarrod My wife is big into the photos watch face. I'll have to remember to suggest some of these improvements to her.
@jarrod A floating tab bar on iPadOS isn't exactly groundbreaking, but it's better than the bottom bar I think.
@jarrod Oh hell yes, remote control of iOS devices over FaceTime. Family support just got so much better.
@jarrod Not that I'm going to use it often, but the Math Notes looks pretty sweet. Nice touch in putting the auto-solved answers in the user's own handwriting.
@jarrod Smart Script makes me feel a little weird, but it is super cool. It might actually get me to write more on my iPad if I can actually read my improved writing there.
@jarrod Looks like Craig took some Parkour lessons from the visionOS Adventure episode. (The stunt double was a little too obvious though.)
@jarrod Mirror iPhone for macOS. Now developers don't even need to enable their app for macOS.
@jarrod iPhone notifications on my Mac? But did they redesign the disastrous Notification Center there? I just started turning off notifications there yesterday.
@jarrod Ooooh! Better tiling for windows with proper gaps between the windows. Sorry third-party apps.
@jarrod Passwords app is a go. I'm kinda surprised they went with "Passwords" as the name, seeing as they're trying to phase those out with Passkeys. I would have gone with "Keychain". Also, unless I can add arbitrary data to the app, I still might be going back to 1Password.
@jarrod Those Safari updates were...restrained? The design reminded me of Arc, and Reader and Viewer look nice, but they didn't go very far in the summary/intelligence realm. Maybe we'll see more later.
@jarrod I instinctively took a bathroom break during the gaming segment, but sounded like maybe some good stuff there? Will have to rely on others' analysis to know if it's actually something.
@jarrod Writing tools across everything. With a nice little Genius-like logo. Hasn't mentioned Siri yet.
@jarrod Whoa... I didn't expect generated images. They look...interesting. But at first glance I wouldn't say they nailed the style like they did with Memoji.
@jarrod Oh yes, asking for those specific actions is exactly what I wanted out of a system AI feature.
@jarrod "Many" of the models run on-device. Some are going to go to servers too, BUT with Private Cloud Compute.
@jarrod Did you catch that little indentation on the screen when you press the side button? Nice.
@jarrod LOL They used Apple Intelligence to write that email rather than use the 'Superhuman AI' button in the app.
@jarrod If these proofreading writing tools lets me uninstall Grammarly, I'll consider it a win.
@jarrod Watching the app's AI (like Copilot) battle it out with the system's AI on writing suggestions is going to be fun.
@jarrod Intelligent 'Reduce Interruptions' focus mode could be cool, could be terrible. Will need a bunch of testing.
@jarrod I think the Unicode Consortium is going to get way fewer new emoji proposals if people can just make their own emoji that work functionally the same.
@jarrod The only miss on the AI section was them not using @danielpunkass's catchphrase. "There's nothing artificial about Apple Intelligence."
@jarrod Looks like my prediction of all future Apple Events being shot on iPhone is playing out.
@jarrod Wow. What an event. I feel like I need to start it over again at half-speed just to catch it all! Good luck to everyone whose job it is now to publish summaries as quick as they can.
@andyn Yeah, they've got some great stuff for snapping and tiling. I liked what I saw at the recent Windows event.
@jarrod The addition of the chatbots might have just been there to make some investors or people happy. Sometimes projects get added so people stay.
@jarrod unfortunately it’s going to be like some popular trails in the Bay Area and that’s it. And then in 3 years they talk about an update with like 3 other big cities with trails nearby.
@jarrod It doesn't strip out the hashtag symbol, but if you add a "#" at the beginning of a line, because it's Markdown it turns that into a header! Which effectively does remove the hashtag.
