I was confused by this for years, but was set straight, oddly enough, by an early-90s SNL sketch.
I always hear "20,000 Leagues" as Phil Hartman impersonating Kirk Douglas while infuriating Kelsey Grammar. The complete original seems lost, but someone found a video recording for the Internet. The sound is iffy, but gets better.
