I just released my ‘Count Characters for Micro.blog Timeline’ shortcut version 1.0:

This shortcut converts Markdown text to Rich Text and then counts the number of characters. If it is over the character limit to be displayed in full on the Micro.blog Timeline, it allows you to edit the text to be within the limit to avoid truncation. If the edited text still has too many characters, it will continue to rerun this shortcut until it is within the limit.

@jarrod May I suggest a tweak? Ask if you want to continue as is by mentioning how characters over limit it or want to edit it? That way you can use it for macro posts too.

@pratik That’s an excellent idea. For some reason I thought I had accounted for that option even though I’d hardly use it. I’m trying to minimize the number of taps, but I think I came up with a good flow here. I’ll publish the update shortly unless you’ve got any other suggestions?

@jarrod Do you have any experience in combining Shortcuts with Actions in Drafts? I write my posts in Drafts even the micro ones and would love to run this shortcut through my Publish Action coz Drafts includes Markdown formatting tags in its character count. Happy to commission it if I can.

@jarrod I hacked the shortcut to allow up to 3000 characters and I felt like I was cheating 😂😂
